The Cattaraugus County Soil and Water Conservation District is dedicated to helping students and community members learn about local natural resources and the importance of conservation.
Great Outdoor Days at Allegany State Park
The District has had the opportunity for the past few years to attend Allegany State Park’s Great Outdoor Days. The District brought a stream table where they taught 300–500 fourth and fifth graders about the characteristics of a stream and how they interact with the landscape and infrastructure. Future conservationists love this interactive, hands-on exhibit!
Students learn about:
- How water shapes the landscape
- How erosion affects roads, bridges, and culverts
- Why conservation practices matter in everyday life
